About Us

"Church in the Trees" - Morisset

The Uniting Church in Australia was formed in Australia in 1977 through the union of all Methodist and the majority of Presbyterian and Congregational Churches in Australia at the time.

As a Protestant Church, the Uniting Church is led by the Holy Spirit to interpret the Scriptures in the light of the inheritance of literary, historical and scientific enquiry which has characterized recent centuries.

The Uniting Church is the third largest church in Australia, after the Roman Catholic and Anglican Churches. It has an understanding of the “nearness of the kingdom of God” which includes the body, mind and spirit of the individual, as well as the community dimensions of our relationships with each other. This is reflected in the fact that the Uniting Church is the largest non-government provider of social services in Australia.

Along with other congregations, Morisset Congregation belongs to a regional council known as the Presbytery of the Hunter. This Presbytery in turn, is part of the Synod of New South Wales and the A.C.T.; and the national Assembly of Australia.

See the “Related Links” button for web access to these wider bodies of the Church.

The Morisset congregation is not primarily a building or an institution; it is a community of people, known as “Church in the Trees”, who are ‘Growing in the Spirit, reaching out in Love’.
